In honor of the 10th anniversary of the 2003 BBCi Doctor Who webcast, Scream of the Shalka, I decided to finally complete a project that had been sticking in the back of my mind for quite a number of years: a recreation and extended remix of the Shalka theme. Without intending to sound immodest, I realized that I was one of very few people who could actually do this theme justice simply because of its heavy reliance on samples from the original Derbyshire theme. I began work on this a few weeks ago and finished most of it in a few hours on a single Saturday. I returned to it today to polish it up and get it ready for final posting. Many people, myself included, were disappointed that the "extended" version of the theme didn't include a bridge or middle eight, and seemed cut together from the opening and closing versions that were produced. (Nothing at all like any other modern Doctor Who composers we might be familiar with. Ahem.) I've rectified that for this mix and attempted to produce a version that was faithful to the original but slightly more fleshed out. I hope you enjoy it. |
